Letters To Mia

31 January 2012

To my dearest, tiniest Lil Bean –

You’re just over 5 weeks old, and you’re smaller than a grain of rice – yet you’ve overwhelmed all my thoughts and deeds. I am constantly reading up on your development, and I am so amazed by this miracle. I have cut back on my caffeine intake, and I will not drink any alcohol whatsoever – no vino for this vino fly! I am taking 4 different vitamin tablets every day, in the hope of ensuring you with all the vital nutrients for your healthy growth.

I am excited about experiencing my pregnancy journey, (and tracking your amazing growth), but even more so, I can’t wait to welcome you into this world. In the meantime, I hope you are very snug, comfortable and happy in your watery dwelling, and I am going to have lots of fun preparing everything you will need for your arrival and more.

Only 19 days to go until I see you on the ultrasound sonar screen – I can’t wait!

My Lil Bean, stay safe and happy and healthy, grow beautifully and joyfully!

May God bless you and keep you.

I love you.

21 October 2010, one month old

My darling little Mia,

You’re one month old today! You’re growing and developing so beautifully – and this is only the beginning. You’ve just recently started smiling sometimes, and it absolutely makes my day and melts my heart. I can’t get over how perfect you are, from your sweetest tippy toes that look exactly like your dadda’s toes, to your gorgeous unruly hair that looks just like mine did when I was born!

I’m sorry for the times that I take a bit long to feed you or change your nappy, I’m sorry if I’m a bit clumsy when I’m dressing you, I’m sorry if I don’t know how to calm you sometimes when you’re upset, and I’m sorry if I sometimes get a bit overwhelmed by your amazing demanding presence. I’ll get the hang of everything soon, I promise!

You are so loved. I can’t stop staring at you, holding you tight, and kissing you. Your dadda is smitten, and so happy that you’re already such a daddy’s girl! Your grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts and uncles can’t get enough of you either – you’re the centre of everybody’s world now!

We’re doing a photo shoot of our little family this weekend – I’m excited to get some special memorabilia of this time, because I know you’re going to grow up so quickly. I’m already busy packing away your newborn clothes and dressing you in 0 – 3 months outfits!

You’re one month old today – this is just the beginning, my baby girl! It’s the adventure of our lives. I can’t wait for your smiles to become more readily shared, the sound of your laughter, and the little sounds that you’ll start forming soon. For now – I am savouring each moment of the first weeks of your life, making sure your needs are met and that you know you are so loved!

All my love,

Your mommy

21 February 2011, five months old

My precious Mia,

Happy 5 months my baby one!

The tiny-baby phase has passed – you’re a lil person now – you’re MY lil person. I just can’t get enough of you, I kiss you, smell you, hug you, nibble you and stare at you as much as I can.

You want to touch and hold everything that’s within reach. I love the precious way your hands come together at an object so gently, until you have it in your hands and you look at it in wonder for a moment, and then you decide it needs to be tasted as well, and to the mouth it goes!

Your daddy loves playing with you and making you laugh. The latest favourite is flying you through the air, or carrying you sitting on his shoulders – you just love it!

I love our snuggles and cuddles, I love the way you touch my face with your tiny hands, I love the way you nibble my shoulder or neck when I carry you.

Mia Mooi, I love you so much!

Your Mommy

xx

I Wish I Could Protect You Forever

5 April 2011

My darling angel child,

This morning you were lying on the bed in your room playing with your toys, and you turned over onto your tummy. When I came towards you talking to you, you gave an excited kick - and in doing so - bumped your right eyebrow against the corner of your toy box. Oh the tears! Both you and I sobbed. I scooped you up, and held you so tight, I was trying to push you into my heart to keep you there. The bump made an angry red mark, and it took us both a while to compose ourselves.

Oh my baby, what a cruel world we live in, that things like pain and heartache exist.

I wish I could wrap you in cottonwool, keep you in my arms always, and protect you forever.

There are going to be times when you feel unwell... I will stroke your hair, keep you comfortable, and look after you.

There are going to be times that you fall and hurt yourself... I will pick you up, dust you off, and kiss it all better!

There are going to be times when people say mean things... I will help you find the positive in it.

There are going to be times when your heart feels sore... I hope you will tell me about it, and let me hold you and hug you tight.

I'm sorry that I cannot protect you forever... But I promise that I will do the best I possibly can - even if my best is just lots of hugs and kisses!

Oh, I love you so much, my precious one.

xx

21 April 2011, 7 Months Old

My precious Mia Mooi,

You’ve been in our lives for 7 months today – what a blessing you are!

I am just loving this stage you’re at – your excited face, the way you’re starting to be able to express what you want and what you don’t want, your curiosity, your charming nature, your little hands that reach out to everything, your feet that kick and kick.

I love the way you’re trying to crawl, you just want to get moving. I love the way you stand up when I hold your hands to support you – you look so pleased with yourself.

You’re so beautiful – we get compliments from people all over town about your beautiful eyes, your precious face, your gorgeous smile.

Your daddy just lights up when he gets home and sees you! And Nala can’t wait for you to get moving, I think you two are going to still drive each other crazy, can’t wait to see.

You love snuggling in bed with me in the morning – this is our super special time – I just press you as close to me as I possibly can and breathe in your divine scent. You also love our afternoon walks – I don’t know who enjoys these most, you, me, or Nala! We are all most put out when it’s raining and we can’t go.

I just love spending time with you!

Happy 7 months, my chopstick. You are my heart.

All my love,

Your mommy

21 June 2011, 9 Months Old

Mia, my sunshine –

I can’t believe you’re 9 months old!

You’re so precious, amazing, beautiful, adorable and lovable. I just can’t get enough of you. I just want to kiss you, smooch you, smell you, and hug you so tight – I want to press you into my heart!

You babble away, I just love the sound of your voice. You’re a mobile baba now – not crawling in the sense of the word yet, but you’re leopard crawling, you’re going into tummy lying position into sitting position, turning any way you want, and you’re pulling yourself upright against us and against furniture. Clever girl!

The ‘ta’-concept causes much joy when you ‘ta mommy’ your toy. If you take a piece of food out of our mouths – you put it back again after sampling it! You love copying us, sticking your tongue out if we do, or coughing back at your Dadda when he coughs!

You play ball with me, even if it’s just by chance that you manage to roll it back to me – it’s lots of fun!

When you’re excited about something, your little mouth is all round in the shape of an ‘o’, and you go “hoooo hoooo hoooo” – causes of such excitement are when you manage to stand up, or when you get hold of something you’re not supposed to, like the remote control or keys or cellphone.

You’ve had your first chomp choccie – and you loved it! Yoghurt and custard are still your fave foods.

I love snuggling with you on these cold winter mornings. There’s nothing better than that in the whole wide world!

I love you to the moon and back.

Mommy

To my darling Mia Jill,

Today is your very first Birthday,

And I have a few things I’d like to say.

There is so much to express from the bottom of my heart,

I’m not even sure where to start.

You are amazing,

Perfect and astonishing,

You are wonderful,

Beautiful and special.

In awe, I stare at your face –

I could do this all day long.

I thank God for His grace,

That He gave you to me.

You make my heart swell with pride and joy,

You are my precious one, Mia Mooi!

This year, you have taught me:

All about patience,

And about finding a balance.

Forget about sleep deprivation

And days of exhaustion...

Because a single smile

Will make everything worthwhile!

To infinity and beyond

Forever and ever.

Happy First Birthday!

Love you always,

20 Months Old

My most precious little person,

You are four hands full in months today! For twenty months, you have been a part of our lives - I can't imagine things any other way.

You are sometimes funny, sometimes serious, sometimes quiet, sometimes loud... You are always, always, always getting lots of hugs and kisses and love from your family!

I am in denial, just thinking that you turn 2 in four short months time. For now, I keep saying you're "one-and-a-half" - just to keep you little for a while longer!

It's winter time now, and really quite cold already. My favourite time of every day is when you wake up in the morning, and I fetch you from your cot, and bring you to bed with me for snuggles and cuddles. Heavenly! I hope we can do this forever.

Love you so, so much!

Mommy

xx
